The Benefits of Drinking Enough Water & Tips to Boost your Intake

We all have heard time and time again that we should make sure that we are drinking enough water. Then we wonder how much do we actually need to consume and why do we need to?

Health experts generally recommend eight 8oz glasses per day. An easy way to remember this is the 8×8 rule. However, this rule can change based on weight, lifestyle, and the climate that we live in. You should try to drink half of your body weight in ounces. For Example = 150lbs = 75oz per day. If you live in a hot climate or exercise a lot you can increase that
amount as well.

Our bodies are mostly made of water and drinking enough of it every day is essential for our health. We can become dehydrated if our h2O intake is too low which can lead to dry skin, headaches, muscle cramps, brain fog and general fatigue.

Drinking water helps to flush waste out of your body, improves focus and brain function, boosts the immune system, normalizes body temperature, protects your tissues and joints, improves circulation, curbs cravings and hunger, helps in clearing skin issues, energizes us and helps to relieve stress. Just reading about those benefits makes me want to grab a big glass right now!

Increasing your water intake can be challenging for some. Here are some tips that may help you along your hydration journey.

  • Carry a bottle of water with you when you are on the go.
  • Keep a glass of water on your desk at work.
  • Keep a glass of water next to your bed. We can wake up feeling dehydrated.
  • Infuse your water with fruits, veggies and herbs.
  • Make it part of your routine. You can even set a reminder in your calendar.
  • Ask a friend to be your “Hydration Buddy” to keep you motivated and accountable.
  • Set a goal and stick to it.

Before you know it consuming enough water will be second nature and you won’t even have to think about how much you have had each day!
