Soak the almonds overnight in water or in very hot water for 2 hours
Drain and rinse the soaked nuts in fresh water.
Add the rinsed and drained nuts to your high-powered blender with 4 cups of water and a pinch of salt (if using). You can also put your add-ins into the blender at this point. Blend on high speed for 1-2 minutes until it is smooth and creamy.
Strain through a nut milk bag, cheesecloth or thin dishcloth.
Store milk in fridge and use within 3-4 days.

Keep the pulp to make crackers, energy bites, muffins, or almond flour.
